The Skirvin Excursion

As a special treat to celebrate 5 years together, my wonderful husband planned a mini get-away.  He booked us one night in this historic luxury hotel, The Skirvin, in downtown Oklahoma City...it was built in 1911 and stayed open until 1988..after the oil bust, where the hotel sat abandoned for 19 years. Then in 2007, it was bought by Hilton and renovated to it's former glory.  Its retro old feel is still apparent today. They tried to stay true to that modern deco of the 1910's and 20's

It was a wonderful evening..  This was the first time I spent a night away from the girls.  We asked a friend to stay with the girls while we "got away".  Michael has been bogged down with work and school so this was a much needed time of rest and relaxation.

We went downtown, to the hotel first. They had valet parking waiting for us, and as we pulled up I felt a little out of my element...but it was fun none-the-less to be pampered.  We got ready in our room and then went to Mickey Mantel's for dinner, a great steak restaurant.

The first thing to greet us was this beautiful Christmas tree they had in the front lobby.

Here is the front desk, notice the dark wood details...very nice

This is the dinning room, we ate breakfast here.

Here is another view of the front lobby.

Michael is standing in the picture here in another view of the lobby and front doors of the hotel.

I thought these elevator doors were really neat.  This picture doesn't do it justice, but it's gold with a green detailed background. Very ritzy!

They had a gingerbread train on display.

Here is the front desk clerk....

They also had a gigantic gingerbread house...

The Skirvin in Legos...

Michael had these waiting for me in the room!!

Here I am inside the suite. Our room was half oval shaped.

A picture of what the bedroom looked like.

A glimpse into the bathroom.

Here we are, happily married 5 years!!
Thank you honey for being so good to me!

So Easily Distracted

"God forbid that we should rebel against the Lord, and turn this day from following the Lord, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the altar of the Lord our God that is before his tabernacle."

So many times in my morning I find myself "building altars...beside the altar of the Lord."...Getting distracted by the routine of life is very easy if you are trying to read your Bible and walk with the Lord. From the moment I wake up my mind begins to race as to what I need to do for the day.  The hustle and bustle of the morning makes it extra hard to stay on track and to get alone to read my Bible... Even now my mind drifts off to what I am going to get at the grocery store...I want to build my altar "before his tabernacle" today. I hope I can stay on track.

"But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you , to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul."

I guess I just need to get up earlier!! Ugh!!

The "Twin Beds"

Do you remember "I Love Lucy," the "Dick Van Dyke Show" and "Leave it to Beaver?" Do you remember when they would show the couples together in the bedroom? TV standards weren't allowed to show them together in the same bed, or together in the twin beds at the same time without at least one of them having their feet hanging out.  Those standards were pretty strict back then.  Now, on prime time there is no telling what kind of filth will be shown.  The TV shows of the past slowly lost those standards and the populous got use to seeing the beds, then slowly got use to seeing the couples in the beds, to the point of where we are now in 2012.

I remember when I took a writing class in college.  My professor did a unit on the psychology of persuasion in TV advertising and all of the subliminal messaging that happens while watching either commercials or TV shows.  I remember him telling the class that billions of dollars were spent on marketing and the TV and what ever other medium was used.  "Think Tanks" gathered together to think of strategies to quietly hint at certain elements in the advertisement or show.

We can see what the TV industry is doing in the area of promoting perhaps now, not so subtly, the homosexual behavior.  Collectively numbing down people to the point where they will not even think twice about seeing two people of the same sex engaging in illicit behaviors together the same way we see it in prime time TV with heterosexuals.  Take for instance when in "Will and Grace", they introduced America to the funny, charming, kind,"token" gay guy.  Even as far back as my childhood I remember the headlines when Roseanne Bar kissed a woman on her TV show, "Roseanne".  Just in the past 20 years, from when I was 10, till now, its hard for me to even fathom what is being promulgated in the TV programing of all the major networks along with their commercials, think about it, "The New Normal", "The Modern Family", "The Good Wife", and not to mention on cable programming, like Bravo, where they showcase sodomy on about every TV program...or what about HGTV, in "House Hunters" when they follow a gay couple in their adventures of purchasing a new home.  Like I said not too subliminal there...

Now here I would say was an attempt by the TV industry to be subtle....I was watching TV and a NyQuil commercial (I can't remember exactly) came on, it showed two twin beds, with two men sleeping in them, they were comparing the two to the affects of the one man taking NyQuil and the other man taking some off brand.  Now, I am known to be a little bit of a conspirator so, you may think that of me in trying to connect this commercial with what is happening in our society, but you can't deny that it is a bit unusual...I'm just saying...isn't it interesting that they've come back to the "twin beds" strategy?

Before long it will be normal for commercials to show to men in the same bed advertising some sleep medicine, and there won't be any confusion as to how those men are interacting....what a sad place we are in....

As a side note, the dumbing down of American, I think, has been caused impart by the TV industry. Its use of subliminal tactics to push certain agendas has allowed for the degradation of our culture to slip into where it is now. If I let Lizzie watch "Max and Ruby" which I think for the most part is an OKAY cartoon, you still have to watch out for ideas such as globalism and environmentalism....the show isn't really the problem, it's the commercials that make her a greedy Gus!! "Mommy, can I have that such and such toy...Mommy, can I get that for Christmas maybe?"  I have to be really careful....I try to fast forward them...

Welcome to America people!!  It certainly has become a wide open mission field...

My "Fireteam"

In the Marines there is term used for small units in infantry,  one such term is "fireteam", usually consisting of 4 or fewer Marines.  This is for easy maneuver and accountability during missions, specifically in urban surroundings....

I am proud to announce that my "fireteam" of Ruiz females is finally complete: Mama Ruiz, Lizzie Ruiz, Bella Ruiz, and Baby Girl Ruiz (I'm having so much fun with names, there are so many possibilities....) I'm so excited about this....I love girls!!!

Michael and I and the girls went to the doctors' to have my 5 month check-up and ultrasound.  Before that time, Lizzie had been referring to the baby as, "baby brother/sister baby", this is due to the fact that we didn't know what we were having.  Well on Wednesday, the technician confirmed to us that we are in fact having another girl.  I am not particular in what the sex of the baby is.  I, however, for the sake of Mike, did kind of hope for a son...you know how men are, they want there names to be passed on...I am happy either way...I could have a houseful of women!! I don't know about Mike though...LOL!!  He was and is happy.  When he realized that we weren't going to have to buy anything (like clothes) for this baby, he even perked up more!!...his girls mean the world to him, and they have him wrapped around their fingers...:)

I am just so excited and I can't wait to meet her.  I pray God makes her a perfect miracle...Lizzie is so excited to be the big sister again...and Bella has become obsessed with babies...everywhere we go if there is a baby, she says loudly, "baby" and points...Lizzie was like that at her age too...the Lord willing, I want to have 5 children, this of course is my ideal number, I'm sure after number 3, this may not be the realistic number, we just have to wait and see...but for now we still have at least 2 more tries to get a son for Michael....
